The Pittsburgh Penguins joined the NHL in 1967 as an expansion franchise. At the time, the Penguins were the second team in the league. However, the team was quickly relocated to Philadelphia due to their poor performance early on. After two seasons in Philadelphia, the Penguins relocated again, this time to Pittsburgh. Since then, Pittsburgh has been one of the most successful teams in the NHL.
The Penguins quickly improved, however, and won their first Stanley Cup in 1991. They repeated as champions in 1992 and 1993 and managed to get to the finals in 1994, but the Flyers again swept them. The next year, the Penguins went back to the finals, and this time they won, defeating the Dallas Stars in six games.
The Penguins continued to be one of the best teams in the NHL, and they managed to win another Stanley Cup in 2009. They currently reside in the top spot in the league and are looking to bring home another championship this year. It will be a huge accomplishment for the team and their fans if they can do so.
